Nicholson Center Grand Opening - New Center Prepared to Train 20,000 Clinicians a Year in the Latest Robotic and MIS Techniques

With an all new 54,000 square foot training facility the Florida Hospital Nicholson Center for Surgical Advancement is designed to host major medical training and educational events. It is expected that the center will be used to train about 20,000 clinicians per year in the latest robotic and mininally invasive surgical techniques. The center is designed for face to face events as well as distance learning in remote locations. A Critical Appraisal of Robotic Surgery in Light of Current Experience presented in the Turkish - German Gynecology Congress

The integration of robotic surgery for routine use in gynecological surgeries, its advantages, disadvantages and cumulating experience on complications was one of the hot topics at the IX Congress of the Turkish German Gynecological Foundation held in Antalya-Turkey, May 4 - 8, 2011. Robotic assisted minimally invasive surgery has the potential to revolutionize the existing standards of the gynecological surgical procedures, especially the oncological interventions, both by greatly reducing postoperative morbidity and by preservation of the radicality and principles of oncological surgery.

SLS and FECOLSOG Present First Multidisciplinary Meeting for MIS in Colombia

Report of the First Combined Congress between the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons (SLS) and the Colombian Federation of Associations of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FECOLSOG)

The Congreso Satélite - Society of Laparoendscopic Surgeons (SLS) II Congreso Colombiano de Endoscopia Ginecológica was held in Cartagena, Colombia from June 1-4, 2011.

This was the first combined Congress between SLS and the Colombian Gynecology and Obstetrics Society. It was organized by Dr. Juan Diego Villegas, President of the Congress, and Dr. Rafael Padron Burgos, President of the Colombian Gynecology and Obstetrics Federation (FECOLSOG).  This was the first multidisciplinary meeting for our Colombian colleagues.

MIS and Lower Rates of Hospital-Acquired Infections

According to the Kalorama Information report Minimally Invasive Surgical Devices, World Market, "Major trends show MIS has been shown to reduce hospital-acquired infections." According to the report as reviewed by Becker's, the use of MIS was linked to an "overall decrease in the odds of acquiring an infection, specifically an 80 percent reduction in respiratory tract infections, a 69 percent reduction in bloodstream infections, a 59 percent reduction in wound infections and a 39 percent reduction in urinary tract infections, according to the report. Read the report abstract. Read the Becker's Summary.
